IST Hungary offers foreign investors and their families the opportunity to obtain Maltese citizenship through the Naturalization Program for exceptional services to the Republic. This route allows you to become a full EU citizen by making a contribution of at least € 738 000 to the country’s economy.
Legislative basis of the program
In November 2020, the Government of Malta enacted regulations (S.L. 188.06) governing the procedure for obtaining citizenship through naturalisation for meritorious reasons. The Maltese Citizenship Act (Act Cap. 188, LN437) clearly sets out the conditions under which investors can apply for citizenship in this country.
Financial conditions of participation
The basic contribution to the Malta National Development and Social Fund is:
- € 600 000 for standard processing (36 months residency)
- € 750 000 for fast-track processing (12 months residency)
An additional € 50 000 is required for each dependent family member included in the application
Real Estate Requirements
Participants in the program are required (optional):
- Purchase residential real estate worth at least € 700 000
- Rent residential real estate with a minimum annual cost of € 16 000
The investment in real estate must be maintained for at least 5 years after receiving citizenship.
Charitable contribution
Each participant in the programme is required to make a donation of at least € 10 000 to registered Maltese charities.
