We’d like to share with you an interesting case from our practice. On March 1, 2024, our client received a positive decision regarding the Residence Permit for Financially Independent Persons (FNP).

A young man approached us at IST Hungary with a request to change his status from a White Card (Fehér kártya), designed for digital nomads, to a new basis – financially independent person (type “other purposes”). At the time of the application, he had been living in Hungary for several months.

The documents for the change of status were submitted at the end of October 2023, and a supplementary application was received in December. Due to the migration authority’s transition to the new legislation for third-country nationals, the processing of the case was suspended for two months. During this time, we accompanied the client to the migration authority twice to extend his stay.

On March 1, 2024, after a long wait, our client successfully obtained a one-year Hungarian residence permit as a financially independent person under the “other purposes” basis.

However, during the waiting period his plans changed. He now intends to change his residence permit basis from FNP to business, open a new Hungarian company, use our accounting services for its maintenance, and arrange banking consulting with full support for his business from our company, IST Hungary.
