In 2024, Hungary introduced a residency-by-investment program, also known as the “Golden Visa,” which is exclusively available to citizens of non-EU and non-EEA countries.
Previously, Hungary had a residence-by-investment program based on bonds in 2013. The new Golden Visa program, which began on July 1, 2024, offers significant advantages. The minimum investment for the new program is set at €250,000, with no requirement for physical residence in the country. Residency by investment in Hungary will be granted for an initial period of 10 years, providing long-term security for investors. After this period, the residency can be renewed once for another 10 years.

Investment Options in Hungary’s “Golden Visa” Program
Hungary offers two methods of real estate investment to obtain the Golden Visa, with the investment requirement to be fulfilled within 93 days of entry into Hungary:
1. Investment in a Real Estate Fund from €250,000
From July 1, 2024, investors can purchase shares in a Hungarian real estate investment fund licensed by the Central Bank of Hungary to participate in the Golden Visa program.
2. Investment in Residential Property from €500,000
As of January 1, 2025, investors will be able to purchase residential property with a minimum value of €500,000. Before the purchase can be completed, a permit from the Land Registry of Hungary is required.
