Slovenia Officially Launches Its Digital Nomad Visa Program on November 21, 2025. Applications will open on that date through consulates, embassies, or an online portal.
Key Program Details:
1. Visa Validity:
- Issued for 12 months with no option for extension.
- Reapplication is permitted only 6 months after the previous visa expires.
2. Main Applicant Requirements:
- Citizenship: Only for non-EU/EEA nationals.
- Income: Minimum €3,200–3,297/month (twice Slovenia’s average salary).
- Employment: Must work exclusively for foreign companies or clients (freelancing, remote contracts). Employment with Slovenian organizations is prohibited.
Additional Conditions:
– Rental agreement for accommodation in Slovenia.
– Health insurance coverage.
– Clean criminal record certificate.
3. Family Provisions:
- Family members (spouses, children) can obtain residency under the same conditions but without the right to work in Slovenia.
4. Tax Benefits:
- Income from foreign sources is tax-exempt in Slovenia.
Important Restrictions
Prohibited Activities:
Working for local companies, running a business in Slovenia, or earning income from Slovenian sources. Violations result in visa cancellation and entry bans.
Program Background
Law Approval: Amendments to the Aliens Act were passed in July 2024, but implementation begins in November 2025.
Goal: Attract IT professionals and freelancers, boosting the economy without competing for local jobs.
